Bocce Ball • (League & Tournament Registration Coming Soon!)
If you've never tried Bocce Ball or "Bocci" as it's sometimes called, you'll find it's an easy game to learn. Cabanas has 2 great Bocce Ball courts and welcomes you to give Bocci a try and see how much fun it can be.
Here is some basic information about the game of Bocce Ball.
Equipment
A set of bocce balls : consisting of eight large bocce balls (half of which
are of a different color or pattern) and a smaller "object ball" (sometimes called
a "pallina" or a "jack")
Playing Surface
The playing surface
should be reasonably flat and level and can consist of packed dirt, fine gravel
or short grass. While some prefer to play on a manufactured court, a gravel driveway
or backyard make acceptible playing surfaces.
Players
The
game is played with two teams; each team can have one, two, or four players
Four Player Team - each
player throws one ball
Two Player Team - each player throws two balls
One Player Team - player throws all four balls
Object
The object of the game of bocce is for one team to get as many
of their balls closer to the pallina than the opposing team's closest ball.
Play
The toss of a coin determines which team will start. The
starting team chooses which color (or pattern) ball they will play with. The first
team member throws the pallina and then rolls his/her first ball as close to the
pallina as possible. It is now up to the opposing team to roll a ball closer to
the pallina than the starting team.
If the opposing team uses all four
balls and fails to get closer to pallina than the starting ball, the starting
team rolls each of their remaining balls, trying to place them closer than the
opponent's closest ball.
However, if the opposing team succeeds in placing
one of their balls closer to the pallina, the starting team must then roll again
to attempt to get closer or "better the point". Each team continues to roll until
it beats the point of the opposite team.
While the object is to get
close to the pallina, it is permissible for a player to roll his/her ball as to
knock an opponent's ball away from the pallina. Likewise, a player may knock or
move the pallina toward his/her own team's balls. The pallina is playable anywhere
on the playing surface.
Scoring
When all balls have been
played, this concludes the frame and ONE team is awarded one point for each of
its balls which is closer to the pallina the the closest opposing team's ball.
Thus, a team may score up to four points per frame. If the closest ball of each
team is equal in distance from the pallina, NO points are awarded. The team that
scores in a frame starts the next frame by throwing out the pallina and playing
their first ball. Play continues until a team wins by reaching a score of sixteen
points.
Shuffleboard • (League & Tournament Registration Coming Soon!)
When's the last time you played shuffleboard?
Take your self back to that Cruise Ship or beach getaway right here at Cabanas with two full size shuffleboard courts.
How to play Shuffleboard...
A coin is tossed to decide who starts. Thereafter, the winner of the previous "end" starts the next. Players slide their four weights alternately. The weight must pass over the first line and not drop off the table in order to count. It is normal for a player to deliberately knock already played weights in such a way that opponents weights might fall out of play while the player's weights cannon into an advantageous position.
Once all weights have been pushed down the table, the scores for the turn are calculated. A weight which lands on the near line or between the lines scores 1 point; a weight which lies on the far line or between the far line and the end of the board counts 2 points and a weight which hangs over the end of the table counts 3 points. If no weights are in scoring positions then the weight nearest to the near line scores 1 point.
For a two player game, the player who scores 11 points first wins. The target score would sometimes be greater when there were more than two players.
Horseshoes • (League & Tournament Registration Coming Soon!)
Calling all "pitchers"! Cabanas has great horseshoe pits and we'll be offering leagues and tournaments for your enjoyment throughout the year. Check back for all the information - coming soon!
Bags • (League & Tournament Registration Coming Soon!)
The bean bag toss game can be played with 2 or 4 players.
Each team gets 4 bean bags to throw.
When 4 players are used, team members stand at opposite ends and may throw from either side of the box.
Each player throws from behind the front of the boxes. This is the foul line. The player must not pass the foul line or the players throw does not count and the bag is removed from play.
Each team alternates shots beginning with the team that had scored last.
Scoring is as follows:
Points are scored when a player has a bag on the board or in the hole.
Only one team can score per round. Therefore points cancel each other.
A point scored on the board is equal to 1 point, a point scored in the hole is equal to 3 points.
An example of cancellation is as follows: Team one has 2 bags in the hole and 1 bag on the board equalling 7 points (3 pts. + 3 pts. + 1 pt. = 7 pts). Team two has 1 bag in the hole and 1 bag on the board equalling 4 points (3 pts. + 1 pt. = 4 pts.). The lowest score is subtracted from the highest score to get the points earned for team one (7pts. - 4 pts. = 3pts.). Team one earns 3 points in this round and gets to throw first in the next round.
Game is played until one team scores 21 points. A team can win by a white wash which is 11 - 0. A white wash can not occur in the first half of the first round. (all 4 bags in the hole by player 1 of team 1 and only 1 point or zero points by player 1 of team 2)
A bag that is tossed in play and knocks another bag off or in the hole is legal.
A bag that bounces from the ground onto the board is not a legal play. This bag must be removed from the board and play is then continued.
Ladder Golf • (League & Tournament Registration Coming Soon!)
Thought to have gotten its' start at campgrounds across America, this addictive game is played by tossing a Bolo (piece of rope with a golf ball attached at both ends) toward a Ladder (usually made from PVC plastic pipes) with the hope that it will wrap around and cling to one of the individual rungs on the ladder. Which rung of the ladder your bolo clings to ultimately determines your score, or whether your toss simply "cancels out" your challenger's. We'll have a great Ladder Golf league and lots of tournaments all during the Spring, Summer and Fall.
